20 Year History
In 1993 a concept was created. Honor teachers and other members of the community who support education through the purchase of commemorative bricks. Dr. Robert Monke lead the project to build a Teachers and Friends of Education Honor Wall.
“We thought we should come up with some type of project that would involve many people, that would really give a lot of support for teaching and quality education. So we came up with bricks and in 1998 we approved construction and built the first Teacher Honor Wall.”
– Dr. Robert Monke
Over the years, the first brick wall became filled with names and in 2009 a second teachers honor wall was built. The walls are a special place for many visitors because they symbolize excellence in teaching and support for education.
Funding Educational Technology
Funds received from brick donations have been directed towards the purchase of computer laboratories and other technological equipment used in the classroom here at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Technology is continuously changing and staying current is important for our future teachers. Whether our students are learning how to teach by showing technology accessibility or teach using multimedia tools, technology is a dominant resource in the classroom.
It is essential that our students are prepared to enter the teaching profession at the forefront of technology, being innovative and creative with their teaching methods. The U.S. Department of Education states that “online learning opportunities and the use of open educational resources and other technologies can increase educational productivity by accelerating the rate of learning; reducing costs associated with instructional materials or program delivery; and better utilizing teacher time.”
Improving educational technology is essential in the preparation of teachers and education specialists throughout the Central Valley. If you would like to make a donation to the Kremen School to assist with keeping the classroom technology current, click here.
The Tradition Continues
With the second brick wall nearly full, the third and fourth walls have just been built. The Kremen School of Education and Human Development plans to continue the tradition of honoring teachers and educators in the Central Valley and around the world with commemorative bricks.
